Prompt Word: Bound

Minervie and Chip (Halloween Post)

Minervie finished a potion, and realized with dread that she hadn’t heard anything from Chip for a while. He wasn’t in the yard. He wasn’t in his room, nor reading in the den.

She stood on the back porch and with a touch of magic amplification, yelled for him. The silence was deafening. Worse, there were no bird calls from the gathering woods. She grabbed her satchel, drank a deep brownish purple potion, and ran faster than a she should be able to.

Chip woke up, gagged, bound, and bagged. His head and shoulder hurt as if the bag he was in had just been dropped? He was very cold, and suddenly very scared.

The last thing he remembered was talking to a young Treant. No bigger than his knee. Then something grabbed his ankle. Now he’s here, unable to move.

He heard many things that he couldn’t place. Wind? Applause? Grunting? A fireplace? Chip was too cold for it to be a fireplace.

Minervie ran into the woods, and immediately spotted the problems. Baby Treant tracks and wrist width ropes of spider silk hung from several trees. She followed the freshest path she could spot, and found the giant spider dragging a silk-bag, just about to re-enter its nest.

She went into full battle mode. She first sent a blizzard to slow it down, and it dropped its lunch bag.

She sent a fast wind and destroyed the giant spider’s nest, a water ball battered the spider into a tree. The tree even made a plaintive grunt. With the giant spider separated from the bundled Chip, she threw a potion bottle against its body. The giant spider froze solid, along with part of the tree. She marched herself over, pulled a tuning fork out of her bag, gave it a flick, and pressed its base against the giant spiders body, as if tuning a violin.

The giant spider crackled and shattered.

“Why’d you bring ME into this!” complained Greandle the treant, who’d been partly frozen.

“Your little spawn played as that spider’s distraction, so I’ll hear no complaints,” barked Minervie as she started to cut Chip free of the spider silk.

Once freed from the silk, Chip wailed unconsolably and clung hard to grandma Minervie.
