Prompt Word: Joint
Trying too hard to sound authoritative, the new business manager concluded her presentation, “This is why I am proposing that this be done as an amalgamation between our companies.”
There was some murmuring around the board room. “Ms. Collins, I appreciate the proposal, and I see that you’ve thought this through, but for all of our sakes, please put away the thesaurus. You are talking about a joint venture. Amalgamation sounds like we’re planning an 1880s train line.”
Much more meekly, “Yes sir, sorry sir.” The pressure behind her eyes starts to build as she’s afraid she’s going to break down in front of strangers and colleagues alike.
“While we can’t accept outright, as there are many details to work out, especially finance, we tentatively accept the joint venture as the best way forward. Thank you Ms. Collins.”
Both ecstatic and mortified, she briskly walked to the powder room.
