Prompt Word: Bang

Minervie and Chip 4

“Gramma, How long do I have to keep doing this?” Chip was whining after only two minutes.

“Nine more minutes, and you have to pay attention the whole time, so stop whining,” Minervie was torn between teaching Chip what he needs to know so as to not cause injury, and acknowleding that Chip isn’t really old enough for these lessons. “Remember, you told me that you wanted to do this brew.”

“It doesn’t take as long when you do it,” Chip grumbled.

“Actually, it takes ’longer’ when I do it, but you always run off when I’m doing the slow heat.”

“No way,” Chip turned to look at Minervie to see if she was serious.

“Pay atte…” Minervie’s urgent warning was cut off before she could finish.

BANG, the crucible cracked, and the ruined brew leaked out.

Minervie stood up, and walked to the front door, grabbing her satchel on the way, “Come on.”

“What? Where are we going?” Chip asked.

“I need to buy another crucible, and ingedients, and YOU are going to be apologizing to Mr. Cangamelia for delaying his back remedy.”

“But Mr. Cangamelia is always so cranky,” Chip was worried.

“Chip, if YOUR back hurt all the time, YOU would be cranky, too. There’s nothing for it, let’s go.”

Chip did that walk of misery that only little kids can, looking like he was pulling twice his weight as he dragged himself to the door.
