Minervie and Chip 29

Standing near the buffet table, Chip looks up to Minervie and says, “What is goon running?”

Minervie looked back down at him, but he offered no hint or context. Minervie replied, “I don’t know what you are asking.”

Chip pointed to the buffet table, and said, “I hear somebody say something is called it.”

Minervie scanned the dishes, and then saw the deep fried wanton noodles. “It’s Rangoon, Chip.”

“That’s what I said, what is it?” Chip insisted.

“It’s got crab meat, cream cheese, put into a wide noodle, and deep fried,” Minervie explained. “Do you want to try one?”

“Yes!” Chip agreed.

Minervie looked around, and was dismayed that there was nobody around Chip’s age at the wedding, then she went about getting a little plate for Chip to try the oddly named American food. “Come on, let’s find a table for you to try this.”

Sat down, with the cute little jacket abandoned on the back of the chair, Minervie put the plate down in front of Chip. Primed, as children are, to be pre-disposed to love anything deep fried, he eagerly bit into the deep fried noodle, and a dribble of liquid shot out across his chin, shirt and tie. “Ack!” Chip was very disappointed at this food with its hot grease attack. The Rangoon was abandoned on the plate, with little teeth marks, but none of it missing.
