Prompt Word: Pitch/Firm
Minervie and Chip 34
Minervie said, “You’ll be staying over with Mindy and Peter for two weeks, it’s my turn to go to Queensland.”
Chip replied, “What are you going to queeze-lan for?”
Minervie was packing, and not being careful in her reply, “Oh, it’s a long running joke, but one of us always goes to make sure nobody sees when the pitch falls.”
Chip was excited, “I want to go see the baseball game!”
Minervie shook her head, “No baseball, just pitch, it is a firm black tar that takes years to drip.”
Chip wrinkled his nose, “What? Why?”
“The first time a drop fell, back in ‘38, nobody was around, and some of us thought that was funny, and ever since then, one of us have gone back every two years to re-enchant the experiment so nobody will see it happen. This year it is my turn.”
Meta
Pitch was yesterday’s word. Firm is today’s. Combining them.
Since 1930, the longest continuously running experiment anywhere, but nobody has witnessed the drop actually fall, except the 9th drop that happened while the forming pitch drop fell when touched, so it wasn’t a natural drip.
