Prompt Word: Post

Minervie and Chip 20

“Grandma, I’m hungry,” Chip said, with a bit of a whine.

“Now Chip, Mindy and little Peter are coming for breakfast, so you have to wait,” Minervie said.

“Oh really?!” Chip exclaimed.

Sighing, Minervie replied, “Don’t you remember, I told you yesterday?”

“No,” Chip said absentmindedly as he walked over to sit by the front window.

A few minutes later, Chip hollared, “They’re here!” He ran to open the door.

“STOP!” Minervie commanded. “I’ve told you time and time again to never open the front door.”

Chip, in the entry, turns toward Minervie, but reaches out to stop his momentum against the door. As his sleeve touches the doorknob, Chip vanishes.

“Jasna cholera,” Minervie cursed, walking to the door, and opened it for the incoming guests. “Mindy, Peter, welcome in. Sorry, but Chip just threw a security spell, settle in, I’ll be back in a minute.”

Minervie went out the back door, across the yard, and reached out to the gate post. She chanted something unintelligable, and opened the gate.

“Hi grandma, I wasn’t scared this time. I’m sorry I forgot about the doorknob,” Chip said with a clearly shaky voice.
