Prompt Word: Age
Minervie and Chip: 52
Three unconscious men were tied by their wastes, dangling together underneath a broom stick, about two miles NorthEast of the mouth of the Brisbane, not far from Mud Island, and about one meter above the waters of Moreton Bay. Minervie, atop the floating broom, dipped a lower to dunk them a bit.
As these men were shocked awake, Minervie drove her broom is a slow clockwise circle while gaining altitude. It was pitch dark, and only the lights from Brisbane could be made out in the distance. With the cloud cover, one could barely make out the uninhabited Mud Island off to the South.
Minervie called down, “Tell me why Gungan deserved to die.”
“Let me down!” one man called.
“Who?” said another.
The third was clearly scared of heights and was busy soiling himself.
Minervie called down, “Perhaps you only know him as the Chinaman bartender?”
“Let me down, now!” the first man called again. Two remaining men banged into eachother as that man fell to the water far below. No scream, no yelling, just a distant splash.
“The boss told us to break his arms and legs,” the second man yelled up.
The third man had passed out again.
“The boss who?”
“Bill, uh, William Pullman,” the second man yelled, “Please don’t kill me!”
Chairman Bill, as he liked to be called, found himself with wet feet, tied to a rope and floating above the water. He couldn’t see what he was tied to, but guessed it must be some sort of balloon.
Minervie yelled from above, “William Pullman, it’s been an age since someone was harmed because of something I said, and I don’t take such a debt lightly. Why did Gungan deserve to die?”
“Do you know WHO I AM?”
The next morning, three individual dock-men woke up in their own beds, with a great deal of pain in their dominant arm, and with hazy memories of a bad dream. They each would soon discover they their right arms were broken. None of them thought to wonder if Chairman Bill was okay.
Minervie had dropped him straight onto the interior of Mud Island among the countless anonymous graves. Chairman Bill Pullman was never found.
