Prompt Word: Bond

Minervie and Chip 53

Edna and Gungan discussed family, and after some thought, Edna decided that Gungan was a third cousin, once removed. This would say that Gungan’s family line had had kids a bit faster, but well, Edna wasn’t going to correct any assumptions he made about her being a similar age as him.

Eventually, they returned to the actual home on the property, and Gungan fell asleep as soon as he sat on the guest room bed, falling awkwardly, with his feet never leaving the floor.

Similarly, Edna slept well, knowing that Gungan wouldn’t be awake. She liked knowing him, and wanted to continue a familial bond with him, long term. So to her, that was easier by just taking away his chance to be dumb tonight. She wasn’t sure if Minervie would approve of her using a sleep charm, but she figured it does no actual harm as long as hes not supposed to be awake anyway.

Around three AM, Edna awoke. She felt the moment Minervie’s fury blazed from almost 75 miles away. Edna didn’t know what happened exactly, but she definitely knew that someone was dead, and that the dead weren’t happy about it. That last part didn’t even make sense to Edna, but she also knew it might be best to not know. Edna stayed in bed for about an hour, and gave up trying to sleep.

Having time, Edna decided to do oatmeal, she hand cut groats for an hour and a half. Good repetitive work to allow her time to think. She had just set the oatmeal on the stove when she heard Minervie come up the steps. In rare form, Minervie didn’t even knock, she just opened the door, and came right in.

Edna poked her head out of the kitchen, “You had a night, I felt your rage from here.”

Minervie looked at Edna, “I found that the quickest way to convince me that someone isn’t worth trying to talk to, is for them to ask ‘Do you know who I am?’ as if it were a threat.”

Edna raised her hands to protest, “Minnie, I really don’t want to know. It’s better if I don’t.”
