Prompt Word: Set
Minervie and Chip 54
Gungan woke up strangely well rested for sleeping in a strange place. He got up and dressed enough to go to the out building.
Minervie spotted him first, “Good morning, Gungan. Here.” She handed him a case. “Your toothbrush and shaving set are in there.”
“Thanks,” Gungan replied as he hurried out the door.
Minervie asked, “Do you think he’ll be okay in the winter for a few weeks?”
Edna considered, and turned it around, “Have you even told him where he’s going? Or thought to ask him?”
Minervie blanched, “He really needs to be out of Brisbane for the next few weeks. So, being he doesn’t have choices, I didn’t think to talk to him about where he’s going.” Then Minervie got a glint in her eye, “Or did you want to keep him here?”
Edna looked at her dead on, “Sure. Look, Minnie, I have the space. If he’s not afraid of a little work, I could even use his help while his bruising heals up the rest of the way. What I won’t do is treat him like a parcel.”
Minervie said, “Fine. You are right. We can ask him.”
They sat in silence while the hand-cut oats simmered their slow simmer, waiting for Gungan to return.
Fresh shave, fresh clothes, fresh teeth, Gungan was feeling pretty good. He came in the back door to the smell of oatmeal and ham, and smiled. Then he looked up and saw two witches staring at him, and his blood ran cold, “Am I in trouble?”
In unison, both witches said, “No” but the synchronous audio just made it sound creepy.
Minervie started, “I live at the edge of a little town in New York. My home backs up to a vast wood. That is where I would take you today.”
Edna followed up, “You also, being family, have the choice to stay here for a few weeks instead.”
Gungan looked between them, “I’m a bit scared of the woods here, so.”
Minervie stopped him, “My woods are no better. I think more of the monsters in my wood speak human languages, but that makes it more dangerous, not less.”
Gungan got a glint in his eye, and Edna shut him down, “You absolutely cannot go back to your home for at least…” she looked to Minervie.

Minervie said, “three weeks.”
Gungan deflated. He wanted to see America, but Minervie wasn’t selling a sight seeing trip. Gungan had a lot to think about, and seemingly only until breakfast was over to decide.
