Prompt Word: Work
Minervie and Chip 58
It was well past midnight when Minervie appeared next to her coat rack. Too late to disturb Mindy and wake Chip, she put down her things, and went off to bed. She hadn’t slept for 28 hours at this point.
The next morning, after a solid six hours of sleep, Minervie headed over to Mindy’s place with a Thermos of coffee, two boomerangs and the Aasha game board.
Minervie knocked on Mindy’s front door. Chip yelled from inside, “Grandma’s back!”
“Hello Chip, I missed you,” Minervie handed Chip two boomerangs, “Give one to Peter.”
“Okay. Hey Peter!” Chip ran off to Peter’s room.
“Mindy, thanks so much for watching Chip. I know you collect board games, I found you an Aasha board.”
“Oh, how nice, I’ve never seen this type before,” Mindy tittered.
“I brought fresh coffee, too. Let’s catch up.”
Mindy set some cups on the kitchen table, and Minervie poured the coffee from the Thermos.
Minervie asked, “Any work I missed?”
Mindy frowned, “Nothing urgent, but how was your trip?”
Minervie said, “Quite eventful. Turns out, I need to go back in three weeks. You and Peter should come, too. Just for a few days.”
Mindy seemed excited, “I haven’t seen Edna in so long, how is she doing?”

Minervie being her mischievous self replied, “You should ask her, though I warn you, she’s looking after a distant cousin, and I think he has a shine for Edna.”
Mindy laughed, “We literally live on the opposite sides of the world, and if she decides to accept a man’s affection, it doesn’t change my life.” But her eyes weren’t laughing along.
Minervie frowned, “She also still insists on calling me Minnie, but I gave up that fight years ago. Like I’m some cartoon mouse.”
