Prompt Word: Grounds
Minervie and Chip 61
“Alright kids, one more stop,” Minervie said getting back into the driver’s seat.
“Where to?” said Chip.
“A drug store this time.”
“Okay,” Chip was disappointed. Peter had settled himself back onto the seat, not sure what had happened.
She started up her car, and drove a quarter mile up the road, and got into town, took a few turns, and street parked right in front of the Drug store. “Stay here and don’t leave the car.”
She went in, and grabbed a six pack of cola for the boys, and paid the man at the counter, and came back to the car to see the boys yelling at each other. As she walked around the back of the car, she smacked the top of the trunk before opening it. The boys went silent. She put the six pack in, and returned herself to the driver’s seat.
Minervie said, “It is not like you two to fight. Peter, do you want to go home, or are you fine?”
Peter responded quietly, “I’m fine maam. Sorry maam.”
“Chip? Why were you yelling at your friend?”
Chip said, “We were arguing about who would read Action first.”
“And what do you think happens now?” Minervie asked coldly.
In as little a voice as possible, Chip said, “Peter reads it first?”
Minervie started the car and said, “Acceptable answer. Apologize and make up.” They drove home after that. When she got there, she found Mindy waiting on the front steps of her home.
Peter got out and ran to his mom, “Why are you here?”
Mindy smiled and said, “I’m glad to see everyone doing fine. I was scrying on my coffee grounds, and it spelled trouble. Minervie? What happened today?”
Minervie looked around, and said, “Boys, go on to Chip’s room with your comics, and share nicely like you promised.”
“Okay,” said Chip with six comics bundled into a hug against his chest. Minervie opened the door for them, and they went in.
Minervie explained, “I had a bit of a scare. An unexpected wizard showed up at the grocery, and made to talk to me with the kids present. I got out of there, and called dispatch, and they said he’s just an auditor.”
Mindy said, “Oh?”
Minervie shrugged, “I’m not sure what he wants, but I suspect he’ll be by here tomorrow.”
Mindy offered, “Should we have the boys stay at my place tonight?”
“That might help things go more smoothly, Mindy. Thanks.”
