Prompt Word: Flannel
Minervie and Chip 63
Morning arrived and Minervie went about a quiet morning routine. Coffee and a light breakfast, but also a good layering of flannel in case this auditor was here to inspect the Gathering Wood.
As dawn fully broke, she felt the disturbance at the gate to the wood. She looked first out the front window and saw the the auditor wasn’t alone. Looks like he’d brought a lot of backup.
There were three wizards on her front walk, another five on her front street. The disturbance from the gate suggested there were at least a few at the back wood. At this point, she knew this was more than a normal monster audit.
As the three approached her front door, Minervie opened it. “Marc, was it?”
“Ouiyes,” Marc said, slipping poorly from his native French into English.
“Are you coming in, or are we all going somewhere?”
“It depends on what you have to say,” Marc said.
“Well then, come in before all my heat goes out. But also, please to ask your men in back to come to this side of gate. There are some powerful beings in that wood, and they don’t always stay away,” Minervie was ushering in whomever was coming in.
Marc nodded to one of the guys on the porch who went to check, the other came in with Marc. Once inside, Marc replied, “Yes, one of those creatures is why we are here.”
Minervie relaxed a little, “I did a full inspection about a month ago after a certain incident forced me to kill a giant spider. Otherwise, the most notable beast is the old Treant.”
Marc smiled as if she’d walked into a trap, “Ah, yes, the Treant you gave a name.”
Minervie shrugged, “The Treant was named by a child. He can talk, the Treant that is. You can just go ask him how he got his name. I’ll even stay here.”
