Grim Grinning Ghosts played in the background on a loop. Not even the whole song, just the part with the Mellomen, led by Thurl Ravenscroft’s deep resonant bass.
The middle aged, male customer at the register commented on it. “How can you deal with this on repeat?”
She responded, annoyed, “Honestly, I don’t notice it until someone points it out again.” She ran the card past the laser.
He raised his hands, “Sorry, sorry. Did you know that…”
“That’ll be $6.42,” she said trying to get rid of him.
He visibly wilted, tapped his phone, grabbed his greeting card, and walked away. She thanked him as he disappeared back into the mall.
She looked up to the next customer, “Welcome, Did you find everything okay?”
The next middle aged guy came up and said, “I’m sorry to remind you of the song again, but I would like to buy the whole Haunted Mansion set, could you help me gather all the pieces I need?”
She responded, “Of course, sir. THAT is my job. I’m absolutely happy to help.” As an aside, she added, “As long as you promise to not recite that guy’s Wikipedia article at me. Happens at least 4 times a day since that set was introduced.”
