An explosion fills the screen, and after three beats of the high paced soundtrack suddenly silenced, a whole second, the hero’s space fighter finally emerges from the fringes of the shrinking fireball.
Jeremy comments, “That’s why he’s the ace.”
His group of tween friends all agree enthusiastically, much to the embarrassment of Robert, who had tried to get the kids to understand on the ride over that there is supposed to be some decorum in a public movie theater.

Robert noted that the kids with him were actually being quieter and better behaved than most of the groups in the theater. Instead he quipped, quietly - but loud enough for his son to hear, “There’s not enough air in space for a fireball to actually do that.”
“Daaaaaad, the original manga covers that, there were huge oxygen tanks on board when the ship exploded,” Aiden was practically whining with embarrassment that his father wasn’t up on Kojin-Mechi lore.

Robert sighed, “Still wrong, I’ll explain later.”
On screen, the fighting ace was kissing the blue-green alien girl who otherwise had very over-the-top human proportions.
Robert rolled his eyes, and then calmed down remembering the horrible stuff he thought was great when HE was 13.

Japanese, Kojin means “individual”, while Kojin-Teki means “personal”, Kojin-Mecha would basically translate cleanly to individual mecha, but I decided to bring the “i” sound back in. I thought about how to explain it for longer than it took me to decide on the name of the fake movie.
