Bowen grumbled, “Tess walked me to the key, said I wasn’t allowed to do this, and dramatically turned around and walked away. Of course I helped myself to the key.”
Kieff interjected, “Oh, we’re not supposed to be in the dungeon, but that just means they take no responsibility for us if something happens.”
James turned around, dropped his share of the supplies, and started walking back, “I’ve had enough trouble with the count’s guard as it is. See you in town.”
Andi and Tanya were glowering at Bowen for the remaining hike to the old dungeon, but they’d made it without running into anyone. Exhausted, Bowen removed his double-load, and used the “borrowed” key. The gate opened, and they moved into the sloped entrance hall, closing the gate behind them.
In the first chamber, they all gathered around the pile of rock where the granite boulder had been broken down to retrieve Jake’s body.
Without prior agreement, they all stood in a semi-circle around the pile, and bowed their heads in a moment of silence. After that, they got to work.
