Prompt Word: Pat

Hunter James 9

The Chief of the Count’s Guard, South Gate, Rimin Rithin was looking down at James, wanting to pry the crime out of him. James came in of his own accord. James is claiming that his property could be used in a crime happening right now. This is both a rare opportunity to get James to give him useful information and a frustrating person to have to try to be nice to. Rithin isn’t really cut out for this situation. He pats the hilt of his sword and leans in.

James, an orphan who does odd jobs for the hunters around town, is just tired of being hauled in every time something happens. Sure, he stole plenty from the street vendors when he was 16, and the orphanage just dumped him onto the street, but ever since he found out that hunters could use his ability to shimmy up impossible places and set ropes for others to follow, he never looked back. That said, Rithin is an asshole with too long a memory.

Rithin started, “I’ve never seen you here voluntarily, and the way I see it is you are trying to tell me about a crime in progress before I have to drag you in and ask about it later.”

James crooked his head, “I’ll tell you what I know, but it isn’t what you are looking for.”

Rithin started turning red. He breathed deep, trying to keep his voice steady. He echoed, “what I know…” He cracked, “If you don’t know about a crime happening right now, why are you here?”

James shrugged, “If you want to hear what I have to say, I’ll say it. If you want me to leave, I’ll leave.” He stood up while he continued, “I don’t want to waste your time.”

Rithin barked, “Sit. Speak.”
