Prompt Word: Skull

Hunter James 20

The Baron Red of Hawk looked over toward Cring, “What have you to answer, Cring, to the, uh, dual charges of James not reporting a crime and wasting the time of the Gate Guard?”

Time was going slowly. James’ skull throbbed. He’d never once talked to this Cring, nothing about this situation seemed fair. As he heard Cring stand and breathe in, he was sure he was about to be convicted of something.

Cring replied, “My client had gone to the guard to inquire about a lost item, and presumably because of a conviction over a decade ago, the guard asked him questions he didn’t know the answers to, and then locked him up for not knowing those answers. If it pleases the Baron, I would submit to the court that this does not represent a crime.”

Rithin bolted up, “He was the one who said he suspected a crime!”

Cring turned to face Rithin’s outburst, and just waited, saying nothing.

Rithin railed, “What!?”

The Baron was the one to reply, “Chief of the Count’s Gate Guard, both Advocate Cring and I were under the impression that you were done leveling charges, and making statements. There are procedures and a certain order for things, you see. I was under the impression that the Count himself had trained you on the procedures here.”
